Paddleboarding is part of my life. I’ve been doing it for a long time, I enjoy it immensely, and at Agua de Luna, on Isla Fuerte, it’s one of the most important activities we offer. That’s why, when I was in Coveñas, I wanted to do a paddle tour through the mangrove of the Ciénaga de la Caimanera, a landscape very different from the sea, full of birds and nature. And honestly: I loved it.

  • Location: Ciénaga de la Caimanera mangrove, Coveñas
  • Operator: SUP lovers
  • Duration: approximately 2 hours
  • Price: 120 per person
  • Level: suitable for beginners and for those who already have experience
  • Includes: board, paddle, life jacket, instruction, snack, and photos of the experience

What the Experience Was Like

We arrived at the meeting point and, before getting in the water, we were given safety instructions and a briefing on the route. You can tell when a team knows its area well: they knew where to go, what the water was like that day, and how to look after the group.

Paddling through the Caimanera mangrove has a charm of its own: the vegetation on both sides, the silence, and the birds that show up every now and then.

What Makes a Good Tour Special

  • A well-planned route that you can enjoy without rushing and that leaves time to watch the birds.
  • Well-maintained equipment and stable boards.
  • Attentive guides who look after the group without taking away freedom from those who already know how to paddle.
  • A pace that works both for beginners and for those who already have experience.

For Those Who Already Paddle

If you already have experience, a guided tour is still worth it: you get to know a new area, paddle with local people, and discover spots you’d hardly find on your own. It’s a different way to enjoy a sport you already love.

For Those Just Starting Out

You don’t need to be an athlete or have any previous experience. With good instruction, paddleboarding is quick to learn and fun from day one. A tip: start on your knees if you want to build confidence, and always look at the horizon.
